About
Taylor Miller is a queer figure artist working with nature iconography. Art has been with them through many hardships and they aim to share that with others. They were born in Wichita, Kansas and spent their childhood in the arid mountains of Utah. Summers spent hiking in national parks fostered a deep love of the outdoors at a young age.
Taylor’s fascination with the human form began during their studies at the University of Kansas while pursuing their BA in Painting. Art history courses and a semester spent studying in Florence, Italy sparked an interest in figure painting and iconography. Taylor’s experiences abroad fueled a trip to Greece and a return trip to Italy for independent study after undergrad.
The first time they experienced a love of teaching, was during their time in undergrad when they led figure drawing classes. This is the career they wish to pursue.
After graduation, they took some time off school to focus on their artwork. This is where they rediscovered the joy of teaching others through organizing and leading Painting Nights for the LGBTQ+ ERG.
Taylor has exhibited at the Spencer Museum, LibArt, the Annual Visual Art Scholarship Show at the University of Kansas, the Bunker Center for the Arts, and the San Gallo Campus in Florence, Italy. Taylor has shown work and helped organize the Tickled Pink show with the KU Painting Club at Art Emergency. They have received the Ada Bechtel Heuser and Letha Churchill Walker Arts scholarships, and the Brosseau Art Award from the Spencer Museum of Art for their work.
Taylor is now pursuing a master's degree in fine art with the University of Arkansas so that they may further their art practice and become certified to teach fine art at a university level. Moving forward, Taylor Miller wishes to experiment with expanded media and develop their work to reach beyond the bounds of normal painting.
